Pet Insurance Part 3

As some of you may know, I have been talking about my dog, Roxy, lately. She is doing pretty good but I know it may not be much longer for her. It really made me think about how caring for dogs and people are very similar. Dogs are lucky, they know their owners are going to take care of them for as long as they can. With people, we do not always know who is going to take care of us and how that care will be paid for. At least we have an option to buy a Long Term care policy to help with those costs. Dogs do not have debt to worry about or property to distribute. They also do not have family members to worry about. My husband and I decided that we needed to make sure that we planned ahead. You cannot always count on your children to take care of you in your old age. What if they are barely getting by financially themselves? What if they are sick with an illness or live in another country? We decided we needed to plan so we bought life insurance to make sure our debt was paid off and to take care of a surviving spouse or children. I would not want my husband to have to sell the house that my children have lived in just because my income is lost. I do not want to have to uproot my children with possible new school zones. How terrible to lose a parent and then have to make new friends the next year. We purchased life insurance on our children. We bought it when they were young because it's cheaper and we will give it them when they buy their first home or maybe when they get married. This will help to start their financial future. I think of life insurance as a love note that you have left behind for your family. We also made a will, this way, there is no squabbling about what happens with our minor children or our assets. Yes, Roxy has given me lots to think about these days. She is making me plan. I cannot imagine life without her.
